The LOG Mission Area is at present unique in the Diocese of Llandaff. It was established in 2004 with an informal grouping of the Parish of Llansantffraid Betws and Aberkenfig with the parish of Cwm Ogwr and the Parish of Llangeinor and the Garw Valley. In 2006 the parish of Penyfai was also made part of the Mission Area and LOG became LOG+. That same year the parish of Cwm Ogwr expanded to become the parish of Llandyfodwg and Cwm Ogwr and LOG+ was complete (as far as we know!) Each Parish is a separate and independent unit operating as a parish with its own PCC and responsible for its own fiances and planning. Each parish has its own Mission Action Plan. At points where these overlap the parishes will act jointly for instance in the training of Pastoral Teams using the Diocesan ‘Together’ ‘Foundations’ and ‘Visiting and Befriending’ courses. Whilst in our parish (LBA) we are a team of clergy the other parishes are run by a single cleric and one of the greatest strengths of the Mission Area is the mutual support which the ' clergy team’ offer each other, both through the regular weekly meeting for worship on a Tuesday evening - when some of the laity do join us and are most welcome - and also through our regular meetings over lunch for a time of informal fellowship and a chance to catch up and share joys and sorrows, problems and successes.
The eight congregations also meet together mainly for worship but also on occasions socially. Our intent is not to add to what we do but share what we can when we can, so Holy Week is a shared event with 50+ from our congregations gathering around our parishes through the week for compline and address. Maundy Thursday and Good Friday through the day we celebrate on our own but meet up Good Friday Evening and for the service of Easter Light on Easter Eve. Ascension, Pentecost, Harvest Epiphany are also wonderful joint celebrations.
The appointment of new clergy to the member parishes whilst remaining the prerogative of the Bishop or Board of Patronage also requires a lunch with the team in a local pub for final approval!
